Second best car flick, American Graffiti no.1! That 55 was same one in Graffiti, now resides in Baltimore, Md. Steve Fitch sold it in 80's along with the yellow coupe in Graffiti. 3 55s in Blacktop. Main car, camera car, wrecked car. Camera car in Md. too. Looks same but main car very unnoticeable. Owner has it stored away. Wrecked car whereabouts unknown. When car flips over in Graffiti race scene, notice it has a automatic in it, not a 4 spd.!

You should be able to get it online. I ordered it as soon as it came out on VHS tape back in around '96. I bought both versions: the conventional and "letterbox"(wide-screen view). I would highly recommend the letterbox if available. The film was an instant cult classic. I saw it as a kid when it first came out in '71 and was blown away. The movie was serious car racing. The characters didn't even have names. Only mechanic, driver, mechanic, G.T.O. and girl. Sadly, all are dead now except JT.

I attended a screening of this in l.a. in the 90's- director present. It's moodiness had always left an impression on me, having only seen it years ago on tv and wanting to see it again. What hadn't been apparent from the tv viewing was how beautifully shot the movie was. Seeing it projected revealed the openess and sweep of the american landscape. the camerawork is impecable in parts.

I was a 20 yr old Marine stationed on Okinawa Japan and hearing this on an 8-Track player back in 1979. memories of all my friends and the tough times and being homesick.
